I am the fellow who records our adventures and discoveries described here in Notes from the Field. Among the three of us, I am “the young doctor.”
I began working on the project as a college student in the early 1990s. Since 2001, Rolf Peterson and I have been co-leading the project.
For 17 years my life has been motivated and shaped by the time he spends working on the wolf-moose project. I may have been destined for this life… The root of my last name, Vuk, is the Croatian word for wolf.
When not living and working on Isle Royale, I travel the world sharing with others the lessons Isle Royale have for us and consult with managers about how humans relate to wolves and moose. I also teaches university courses in Mammalogy and Population Biology at Michigan Technological University.
